On November 20, 2015, School of Public Health (SPH), Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and Department of Nutrition, Exercise, and Sports & Department of Clinical Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Copenhagen (KU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in north campus of Sun Yat-sen University. The two sides made an agreement of cooperation intention related to education and academic research which aims to last 5 years. During this period, the two sides will focus on joint research and joint education program, encourage the exchange of staff, researchers and students, and discuss the possibility of dual degree or joint degree awarded for Master’s and PhD students.
 
The attendees of the signing ceremony from SPH, SYSU included Prof. Yuantao Hao, Dean of School of Public Health, Associate Professor Jing Gu, Assistant to the Dean in the School of Public Health, Associate Professor Xiuhong Li, Associate Professor Yajun Chen, Associate Professor Yan Guo, and Lecturer Yanna Zhu. The attendees from KU included Prof. Per Sangild, Associate Professor Vibeke Christensen, Prof. Karen Simmer, and Dr. Tobias Strunk.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Prof. Yuantao Hao gave a speech to welcome the delegates from KU and hoped the cooperation would be successful and fruitful. In the next sections, Prof. Per Sangild and Associate Professor Jing Gu introduced the two universities and relevant schools and departments, respectively. Delegates from both sides discussed academic teaching and research issues.
 
The MoU is on the basis of a close mutual bilateral cooperation during the past 3 years. With the efforts of Prof. Jin Jing and Lecture Yanna Zhu, the two sides started partnership in  academic teaching and joint research programs from 2013, including building a database of preterm infant nutrition & development in eight countries and districts, students exchange for research purpose, and an international PhD course named “Food, Health and Philosophy in East and West”. The course aims to improve PhD students’ understanding of scientific, cultural, and philosophical background for specific diet habits and health views, and this course would be integrated to a series of courses of Sun Yat-sen Global Health Institute (SGHI). In the upcoming 5 years, the two sides will continue to expand cooperation areas, and hope more schools and departments of SYSU and KU get involved.
