Research Team Chaired by Professor Wang Gang Awarded by the Government of Nanhai District, Foshan City

China (Foshan) Semiconductor Lighting Industry Development Forum, sponsored by the People’s Government of Foshan and Semiconductor Lighting Professional Commission of China Association of Lighting Industry, and organized by the People’s Government of Nanhai District, Foshan City, was held in Nanhai on September 8th.

More than 300 people attended the forum, including Lei Chaozi, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Science and technology Department, Chen Yunxian, member of Foshan municipal standing committee and mayor of Foshan City, Wang Ling, deputy mayor of Foshan, representatives from the research institutes of higher education such as Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Sun Yet-sen University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and South China University of Technology, officials of Nanhai District, representatives from the affiliated departments of Foshan City, Nanhai District and towns, as well as representatives from the business association and entrepreneurs. Xia Lianghui, assistant to the president of SYSU, and Wang Gang, director of Foshan Research Institute also attended the forum. Professor Wang Gang delivered a report on the “Analysis of LED Industry Development Trend”, a thematic report of the forum.

At the forum, two of the research teams, one of which led by professor Wang gang, were been commended by the government of Nanhai District for their contributions to the semiconductor lighting industry development of Nanhai, Foshan and were conferred upon the “Team of Outstanding Contributions to the Science and Technology Innovation in Nanhai District, 2008”, with each team receiving a grant prize of one million rmb.

The research team chaired by Professor Wang Gang had adhered to the development ideas of SYSU- by placing equal emphasis on improving the academic standards and providing service to the local economy, and developing in contributions”. Professor Wang Gang remarked subsequently after the meeting that he would lead the team to work harder, striving to enhance the development of the core technology of semiconductor lighting industry and to promote the cooperation of production, teaching and research to make greater contributions to the development of semiconductor lighting industry of Foshan City and Nanhai District.
