According to the “Frequently Cited Index of Chinese Journals 2009” and “Chinese Journals Citation Report 2009(Extended Edition)” released recently by the Institute of Scientific & Technological Information of China (ISTIC) and Wanfang Data Co., Ltd., the impact factor(IF) of Journal of Sun Yat-sen University(Medical Science Edition) has reached 0.932, with immediacy index reaching 0.208. Both of the indicators rank first in the medical journals of universities of China. The journal’s IF over the past five years is 0.827, and ranks the second in the university medical journals in China.

At the same time, 7 SYSU medical scholars are ranked among the top 20 authors whose journal articles were most frequently cited in journals of various medical sub-fields in 2008. They are Ye Rengao(Chinese Medicine), Weng Jianping(Internal Medicine), Zheng Zhaomin(Surgery), Wang Jianpin(Oncology), Huang Ruxun(Neurological and Psychiatry), Lai Wei(Dermatology and Venereology), Xu Geng(Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology). The medical journal articles authored by Prof. Ye Rengao and Prof. Weng Jianping respectively are ranked in the top 100 papers that were most frequently cited in all medical disciplines in 2008.
