SYSU Genetic Engineering Laboratory, Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, Passed the Scene Assessment

On September 25th, assessment expert group of Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education visited SYSU and had a scene assessment of the Key Laboratory Genetic Engineering of Ministry of education. Academician Xu Ningsheng, vice president of SYSU, Dong Meiling, deputy director of Science and Technology Department, Wu Shaoxin, secretary of the Party committee of School of Life Science, Professor Su Wensheng, executive vice president of School of Life Science attended the meeting.

Professor Qu Lianghu, Director of the laboratory , gave a work statement of the laboratory, and Chen Yueqin, Zhuang Shimei, Shi Suhua, Liu Jianzhong respectively gave academic reports of representative accomplishments on behalf of their research team.

After listening to the work statement of laboratory and academic reports of representative accomplishments, having site inspection, talking with backbone teachers and young teachers, consulting the relevant evidentiary material of scientific research item, funds, essays published, patens, rewards, academic communication and personnel training, the expert group gave feedbacks on the assessment of laboratory.

Expert group agreed that since the project was approved in 2000, based on the social needs of south China and the whole country, Key Laboratory of Engineering Project of Ministry of Education has aimed at the international frontier, and carried out studies in the fields of genetic resources, crop breeding, related genetic regulation on some human major disease, microbial aspects and drug genetic engineering. What’s more, it has established RNA genomics, plant genetic engineering and medicine genetic engineering research platform. The laboratory has made significant progress in research and technology innovation, personnel development and academic exchanges. Within the construction, through training, introduction and retention of a group of excellent young academic backbones, the laboratory will gradually build a research team with a reasonable age structure, high-level of education, comprehensive professional coverage and strong technical force. The laboratory has made remarkable achievement, some of which has reached the international leading level, for example, non-coding RNA has reached the international advanced level. At the same time, expert group also put forward valuable opinions and suggestion on how to focus the research direction and develop the laboratory.

Xu Anlong ,Vice President of SYSU attended the feedback meeting, expressed his appreciation towards experts’ hard work, and said that SYSU will give a stronger support on the laboratory development, so as to achieve greater development.

The assessment of Key laboratory of Ministry of Education is held every five years, and the assessment results will be divided into three categories: excellent, good and poor. Laboratory with a result of poor will no longer be included in the sequence of Key Laboratory Ministry of Education.
