On the morning of February 25th, the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Guangdong Provincial Government held Guangdong Science and Technology Award Conference & Guangdong Science and Technology Work Conference in Guangzhou. Zhu Xiaodan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Governor of Guangdong Province; Lin Musheng, Member and Secretary-General of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee; Chen Yunxian, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province; Zhou Tianhong, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People's Congress; Tao Kaiyuan, Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial CPPCC Committee; and other provincial leaders attended the conference and presented the prizes to the award-winning representatives. President Xu Ningsheng and some award-winning representatives from Sun Yat-sen University attended the conference.

As the first unit in the award-winning projects, Sun Yat-sen University has obtained six first prizes, four second prizes, and six third prizes of 2012 Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award. It is learned that for the year 2012, Guangdong Province granted a total of 280 science and technology awards, including two grand prizes, 29 first prizes, 80 second prizes, and 169 third prizes.
