On March 21-23, 2019, the 3rd International Symposium on Translational Nanomedicine was successfully held at Kaifeng Hotel on Guangzhou South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. This symposium was sponsored by School of Materials Science and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, and School of Chemistry of Sun Yat-sen University, Key Laboratory for Polymeric Composite & Functional Materials of the Ministry of Education, Center for Functional Biomaterials of Guangdong, Chemical Society of Guangdong, and Biomaterials journal of Elsevier. The symposium began with welcoming remarks from Vice President Haipeng Xiao, on behalf of Sun Yat-sen University. Professor Guowei Yang, Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, attended the opening ceremony. The symposium chairs were Kam W. Leong, Professor of Columbia University and Editor-in-Chief of Biomaterials, and Yongming Chen, Professor of Sun Yat-sen University.
The symposium theme of was "Nanomedicine on drug delivery, nanovaccine and regenerative medicine". Professor Kazunori Kataoka from The University of Tokyo, Prof Yuliang Zhao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, Professor Omid Farokhzad from Harvard University, Professor Kirk S. Schanze from The University of Texas at San Antonio, and Professor Frank Caruso from The University of Melbourne presented plenary speeches at the symposium. There were 16 invited speakers and 15 young speakers from the United States, Japan, Australia, Germany, Belgium, and China, presenting lectures during the symposium.

About 110 posters were presented by scholars, postdoctorates and postgraduates. Among them, 30 postdoctoral students and postgraduates were selected by experts and they gave the rapid-fire presentation in 2 minutes on their research on the afternoon of March 22. Finally, 10 postdoctorates and students were awarded the “NanoMed 2019 Best Poster Award” by Biomaterials journal.

Moreover, the symposium organized an issue of Meeting Editors on the night of March 21. Professor Kam W. Leong, Editor-in-Chief of Biomaterials, Professor Kazunori Kataoka, Associate Editor of ACS Nano, Professor Kirk S. Schanze, Editor-in-Chief of ACS Applied Materials & Interface, Professor Guangjun Nie, Associate Editor of Nano Letters, and Ms. Xuemei Zhang, Editor of Scientia Sinica Chimica introduced the publications. Faculty members and students interacted with editors of these world famous materials journals on submission and reviewing.

This symposium will definitely promote multidisciplinary interaction and collaboration between materials, chemistry, pharmacy, and clinical medicine. It could be an important event in China especially in the southern China area for medical treatment development.
