Recently, the world-renowned prestigious magazine The Economist has released the Ranking of the World’s Best MBA Programs in 2016, among which, Sun Yat-sen Business School (SYSBS) has been ranked 98th, and has hence become the only business school in mainland China appearing on the list.

The MBA ranking by The Economist has adopted the most authoritative third party ranking system, which has excluded the data collected by any business school. Being listed as the Top 100 for the first time, SYSBS has won the international recognition for its excellent teaching quality, and this, in turn, is also the fruit of its hard labor in pursuing for “excellence” and “internationalization”.

On the MBA ranking list in question, Booth School of Business of the University of Chicago has secured its leadership as in the past. It is noteworthy that Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University has bounced back from the 23rd in 2004 to the 2nd place on the list of this year. Other schools entering the top 10 on the list include Darden School of Business (University of Virginia), Harvard Business School, Graduate School of Business (Stanford University), Tuck School of Business (Dartmouth College), Hass School of Business (University of California at Berkeley), IESE Business School (University of Navarra), HEC School of Management (Paris) and The University of Queensland Business School. The top 7 on the list are all American business schools, and this shows the dominant position of the American business education all over the world.

In the Asia Pacific region, there are totally 9 business schools entering the Top 100 list, which are The University of Queensland Business School (10th), University of Hong Kong – Faculty of Business and Economics (31st), University of Melbourne – Melbourne Business School (34th), Macquarie Graduate School of Management (46th), Nanyang Technological University – Nanyang Business School (69th), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology – HKUST Business School (70th), Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (92nd), Sun Yat-sen University – Sun Yat-sen Business School (98th) and National University of Singapore – The NUS Business School (99th).

According to Prof. Fan Wang, Dean of Sun Yat-sen Business School, “MBA program is an important manifestation of the comprehensive capability of a business school. It has always been our goal to have our MBA program entered the Top 100 list in an authoritative ranking. We were planning to take five years or more to achieve that goal; however, the unexpected result of this year’s ranking by The Economist has come as a surprise to us. Thanks to the honor and encouragement given by the international society, SYSBS has gained more confidence in realizing our vision of building an International High-quality College.”

Moreover, there is a 59% increase in the number of early interview students applying for the MBA program of our business school this year than the last year. Currently, although the total number of MBA applicants nationwide is slightly declining, our business school still enjoyed a favorable situation, which explains why the MBA program of our business school got a good ranking by The Economist. “Be steadfast in teaching, and focus on practical affairs” has been the core strength driving SYSBS forward steadily!
