On December 18 and 19, the selection and oral defense conference of Outstanding Research Papers (the Third Chinese Orthopedics Forum) was held in Guangzhou. Under the instruction of Ph.D. Supervisor Zheng Shaomin who is professor of Spine Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital SYSU, Dr. Liu Hui has finished his research paper Mechanism Study of Osteoinductive LMP-1 Inhibitory Effect on Pre-Osteoclast Activity. Out of more than 300 papers, Dr. Liu got a chance to deliver a lecture on his paper and won the first prize.

This conference, as one of the most influential academic conferences on orthopedics with most top experts, is sponsored by the Editorial Department of Chinese Journal of Orthopedics and undertook by Orthopedics Branch of Guangdong Medical Association. Chinese Journal of Orthopedics is at present one of the authoritative academic journals that can comprehensively show the leading orthopedics in China. Outstanding Research Papers are grouped into four categories: joint, spine, wound, medical basis and bone disease. In each category, there are 25 papers to be discussed on at the conference. The authors first give a lecture on their papers, and then the judges pose questions. All the judges are either editors of journals or experts in relevant fields. In each category, one first prize, two second prizes and three third prizes have been given. The award winning research papers shall be published in Chinese Journal of Orthopedics (the 5th Edition 2011). After several times of selections, Dr. Liu stood out with his paper and won the first prize with the highest score within the group of medical basis and bone disease. This is the first time for Orthopedics Department SYSU to win a first prize of this forum, showing that the Spine Surgery of First Affiliated Hospital has made great progress in talents training and clinical researches and becomes one of the most influential research centers on spine surgery.
