On the morning of September 11, 2019, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) held the mobilization meeting of the education campaign themed “staying true to our founding mission” in Swasey Hall on Guangzhou South Campus. The meeting was aimed to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at a key meeting on May 31 to launch the education campaign themed "staying true to our founding mission", and make arrangements for the education campaign at the university according to the requirements of the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Leading Group of the Ministry of Education and the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee.

Mr. Tian Fuyuan, deputy head of the 3rd central guiding group on the education campaign and Deputy Director-General of the Department of Development and Planning of the Ministry of Education, delivered a speech. Professor Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, presided over the meeting and made work arrangements. Professor Luo Jun, Deputy Secretary of SYSU Party Committee and President of SYSU, attended the meeting.

On September 7, the CPC Central Committee held a meeting concluding the first stage of the education campaign themed "staying true to our founding mission" and making arrangements for the second phase. According to the arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, the third central guiding group has been dispatched to SYSU to guide the education campaign.

Secretary Chen Chunsheng pointed out that in the education campaign we should carefully study the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks and have a better understanding of the significance of the education campaign. All Party members at the university should strengthen our consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment; have full confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; firmly safeguard General Secretary Xi Jinping's status as the core of the CPC Central Committee and his core position of the whole Party, and firmly safeguard the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized, unified leadership.

Secretary Chen Chunsheng stressed that in the education campaign we should study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on accurately grasping the goals and tasks of the education campaign, and ensure concrete results. We should combine the education campaign with implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education as well as promoting the development of the university cause. Uphold serving the country through education, fostering virtue through education, spotting problems and rectifying problems.
Secretary Chen Chunsheng said that we should accurately grasp four key measures in the education campaign. Be deep in study and education, be practical in investigation and research, be precise in inspection of problems, and be quick in rectification of problems.

Secretary Chen Chunsheng stressed that carrying out the education campaign is the primary political task for all Party members at the university. Party organizations at all levels should make careful arrangements and take practical measures to ensure that the faculty, staff and students can feel tangible changes and improvements brought about by the campaign, and be inspired to strive to build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics and make SYSU’s contributions to the country.
On behalf of the third central guiding group, Mr. Tian Fuyuan affirmed SYSU Party Committee’s preparation, organization and arrangement for the education campaign, and put forward four suggestions. First, focus on the theme, study and implement Xi Jinping Though on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Second, grasp the general requirements and realize the goals. Third, uphold high standards and implement four key measures. Fourth, assume primary responsibility, prevent the practice of formalities for formalities' sake and bureaucratism, and carry out the education campaign with high standards and high quality.

Some members of the third central guiding group, the liaison officer on Party building sent to SYSU by the CPC Leading Group of the Ministry of Education, members of the university leadership, Party secretaries and deputy secretaries, heads of functional units, schools, departments and affiliated hospitals, as well as representatives of Party members attended the meeting.
