A delegation led by Yang Hongdun, President of Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University, visited SYSU from March 14- 15, carriying out in-depth discussions on the cooperation and communication in respecting disciplines. Meanwhile, Mr. Yang, as the main speaker for the 4th "research Forum of Universities and Colleges”, gave a lecture on “The Challenges and Pursuit of Perfect of Higher Education”. Zheng Detao, secretary of SYSU party committee, Vice-president Chen Chunsheng, principal assistant Wei Minghai and Xia Lianghui greeted the guests.

In the meeting, Secretary Zheng Detao extended his warm welcome to President Yang Hongdun and his delegation, claiming that, the two universities have been carrying out enhanced cooperation in several disciplines under the frame of the agreement of inter-college academic communication and students exchanges since President Huang Daren had visited Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University in December 2008. He hoped that the delegations’ visit would further enhance the communication and cooperation between the two sides. President Yang Hongdun remarked that he was pleased to have visited SYSU in Guangzhou. He anticipated a closer cooperation between the two universities in which they can complement each other’s advantages and promote mutual benefit and development.

The delegation from Taiwan Nation Sun Yat-sen University also carried out exchanges with School of Business, School of Marine Sciences as well as School of Life Sciences. Furthermore, they discussed on relevant topics with functional departments including Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Science and Technology Office, Dean’s Office of SYSU as well as Office of Social Science and Humanities, etc.

On the afternoon of March 15, President Yang Hongdun attended the 4th “research Forum of Universities and Colleges” and lectured on “The Challenges and Pursuit of Perfect of Higher Education”. He introduced the current status and challenges of Taiwan universities, the strategies and reforms of higher education and the cooperation in higher education between the two sides. He also elaborated on the methods and experience of Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University in the process of pursuing “outstanding education”, "outstanding academics” as well as “broaden community, inter-college and international communication”. He hoped that further cooperation and communication would be made between the two universities.

The persons in charge of relevant functional departments and academic departments had attended the meeting activities and more than 200 people consisting of representatives from various functional and academic departments had attended the “research Forum of Universities and Colleges” on the afternoon of March 15.
