On November 16-17, 2018, in order to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the establishment of Sun Yat-sen nursing education and the 20th anniversary of the School of Nursing, Sun Yat-sen University (SON SYSU), the 2018 Sun Yat-sen Nursing Summit Forum-Chronic & Transitional Care was jointly held by SON SYSU; School of Nursing, Johns Hopkins University (SON JHU); School of Nursing, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (SON HKPU), and the Faculty of Health, University of Technology Sydney (FOH UTS).
The attendees of the forum included Li Meng, Deputy Director of Nursing and Rehabilitation Department, National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China; Xian Du, Chief Editor of the People's Medical Publishing House; Shouzhen Cheng, President of the Nursing Association of Guangdong Province; Professor Nancy Reynolds and Associate Professor Chao Hsing Yeh from SON JHU; Professor Frances Kam Yuet Wong and Associate Professor Angela Y. M. Leung from SON HKPU; Professor Jane Phillips and Associate Professor Alex Wang from FOH UTS. Additionally, a total of 400 participants including deans and experts from the schools of nursing at renowned universities in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, directors of the nursing departments in SYSU’s affiliated hospitals, as well as faculty members and students from SON SYSU also attended the forum.
At the opening ceremony, President Shouzhen Cheng extended congratulations to the forum and pointed out that the theme of the forum was suitable for nursing development in order to address the urgent needs for transitional care of the society. Professor Junsheng Peng, Dean of SON SYSU, extended a warm welcome to all the guests. He pointed out that the establishment of “Global Consortium for Chronic Care Research Center”in 2016 by union universities set up a long-term and open platform for cooperative research and academic exchanges on chronic care. On behalf of the union universities, Professor Frances Kam Yuet Wong then gave a speech. She said that the union universities would make concerted efforts to build a cooperative research platform under the structure of the “Global Consortium for Chronic Care Research Center” to promote the development of global chronic and transitional care.
11 experts and scholars were invited to give a keynote speech on topics including policy guidance to the reform and development of the nursing service industry, research results and experiences on chronic care and transitional care, as well as the construction of nursing care under the background of Healthy China in the Internet+ era. In addition, there were three parallel sessions focusing on stroke & aged care, cancer & cardiovascular disease care, and transitional & chronic care, respectively.
The experts and scholars at the forum held in-depth discussions, sharing their achievements in academic frontiers and revealing the trend of interdisciplinary integration. They brought new ideas and approaches for the implementation of chronic and transitional care, and played an important role in promoting the international cooperation and multidisciplinary integration in global chronic care.
