From November 16-18, Professor Leland Hartwell, an academician of American Academy of Science, Director of American Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as well as the recipient of the 2001 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine, paid a visit to the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU, where he had a discussion with Huang Longyun, Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Vice Governor Lei Yulan, Li Xinghua, Head of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, Tuofu Zhu, Lifetime Professor of University of Washington, Huang Daren, President of Sun Yat-sen University, Wang Jianping, Vice President of SYSU and Chairman of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU as well as relevant persons in charge of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of SYSU.
The two sides carried out in-depth exchanges and detailed discussions on the diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma molecules, especially on the screening, early diagnosis, prognosis for colorectal carcinoma and the predict marker, and the chemotherapeutics susceptibility marker. With the aid of the current technological platform of SYSU-UW ITM, the two sides reached a preliminary consensus on the cooperative establishment of a colorectal carcinoma molecules diagnosing lab. This lab will excerpt its efforts on the diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma molecules in order to ascertain its pathogenesis, including screening for the molecules marker used in early diagnosis, applying the screened molecules marker in early diagnosis, follow-up and treatment evaluation, further optimizing the molecules marker, employing molecules marker in the best available sample as well as applying the molecules marker in large-scale mass screening.
This cooperative program is greatly supported and highly valued by the Guangdong Government and Sun Yat-sen University who will spare no effort in support of the launching of this program so as to enhance the therapeutic effect of colorectal carcinoma, to cut down the cost for the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal carcinoma, and hopefully, to cut down the medical cost with the advantage of colorectal carcinoma, a predominating discipline of Guangdong and SYSU and a sought after project.
