On March 21st, 2016, MBA students from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) visited Lingnan College at Sun Yat-sen University, and attended two lectures given by Prof. Lin Jiang, head of the Department of Public Finance and Taxation of Lingnan College, and Mr. Jack Perkowski, managing partner of JFP Holdings and author of the book
Managing the Dragon.

Prof. Lin Jiang delivered a lecture on the topic of China’s manufacturing. He analysed the current manufacturing industry in China and put forward his predictions about its future development. Prof. Lin began with the new stage of China’s economic development and explained the concept of “new normal”. In the “new normal”, China’s manufacturing is faced with both new challenges and new opportunities. With increasing labour costs, the traditional labour-intensive manufacturing gradually loses its advantage. In his view, China’s manufacturing has no choice but to transform and upgrade to a capital-intensive and technology-driven mode. The UCLA students showed great interest in the subject and actively interacted with the professor.

Mr. Jack Perkowski gave a lecture on his 20-year experience in China and his thoughts about opportunities for foreigners in China. Mr. Perkowski impressed the UCLA students with his humour and insights, creating a friendly and relaxing atmosphere in the lecture room.
