On the afternoon of December 18, an inauguration ceremony for the “Digital Media Production Base of SYSU News Center” took place on the East Campus. Li Ping, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, presented the certificate to Hu Shuli, new Dean of School of Communication and Design, as well as Liu Shuyu, Director of the Teaching Experiment Center of the East Campus. This marks the formal operation of “Digital Media Production Base of SYSU News Center” which is a joint effort of News Center, School of Communication and Design as well as the Teaching Experiment Center of the East Campus. Utilizing the teacher force of School of Communication and Design and properly integrating the teaching facilities resources, the base set up a practical teaching platform in digital media production for students of Sun Yat-sen University so as to cultivate talents in digital media production.
After the presenting activity, Cheng Huanwen, the former dean of School of Communication and Design, presided at the speech of the new dean Hu Shuli. Hu Shuli, former chief editor of Caijing Magazine, has been engaging in journalism for almost 30 years. As a journalist, she has made the due contributions in promoting China’s economic system reform. Furthermore, she has been constantly conducting the transforming practice from traditional media to new media and promoting the sustainable development of the media industry. The scholarship project established during his office term as chief editor has brought out a large number of outstanding talents in financial news.
In her speech, President Hu Shuli stated her own views on the development orientation of the school and expressed her willingness in creating favorable conditions for the development of the disciplines, the attraction of talents and the construction of field work base for students, making use of her experience and resources in the field of media. She is also ready to act in accordance with the motto of SYSU and make joint effort with all faculties to establish a first-class education base for new media. She will spare no effort in turning the School of Communication and Design into a first rank college of media.
The speech of President Hu Shuli drew wide attention in and out of the university. The hall was fully packed. More than 20 media groups went to the spot to cover the news.
