This Father’s Day, SYSU students unite to honor paternal love through reciting classic literary works. From Zhu Ziqing’s poignant Back of the Father to Heinrich von Kleist’s ink-stained letters, they recite iconic texts in ten languages—Chinese, Russian, French, Spanish, German, English, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Urdu—bridging cultures through shared themes of fatherhood.
“Baba,” “Papa,” or “Appa”—the word for father may differ, but its meaning is universal. The project highlights how love, sacrifice, and guidance in father-child bonds transcend linguistic borders, from tear-jerking essays to poetic verses.
